This weekend we went away to Coventry for a night, to watch Jon Richardson at the Warwick Arts Centre. We booked tickets for the show back in October and it was only last weekend, after weeks of thinking “we’ll book the hotel next week” that we realised it was getting a little late in the day to put it off anymore. Luckily though we got a good deal on Quality Hotel Coventry (does what it says on the tin!) and this was a lovely hotel.
We got to Coventry on Saturday about lunchtime and headed straight for Costa in Waterstones to have a cuppa and a chocolatey snack – this weekend was definitely off-plan Slimming World wise. Josh and I both did a little shopping, mainly in H&M, taking advantage of my student discount which expires at the end of the month. I got a little faux leather black backpack which I particularly love because of the ears on the top and the front pocket reveals bright white teeth when open.
In addition to this I was after some dungarees just to see if they’d suit me. I found some that I really liked in H&M, but when I tried them on, realised they were cropped ones – which I’m not a fan of. So I found another pair which were full length and had a ripped knee, so I figured I’d get them but wouldn’t need to try them on because if one pair fit, which wouldn’t another?
After our shopping, we went to Nando’s for a late lunch/early tea. Our food arrived approximately 2 minutes after Josh ordered and while he was in the toilet and I was waiting to go after he came back. Who ever thought such quick service could be a bad thing?! After this, we headed back to the hotel and checked in.
As I’m sure you can guess, buying the dungarees without trying them on was the wrong thing to do. When we got to the hotel I found that they fit perfectly, apart from on the upper thighs, so I proceeded to spend around half an hour writhing around on the bed and floor trying to make them fit. It didn’t work, and they’re still a little tight but they felt better after wearing them out. Perhaps I need to stop with the naughty snacks and slim down the chunky thighs!
My little impromptu workout didn’t last long as we needed to head out for the show, so Josh ordered us an Uber and we were soon on our way. I’m a little dubious about Uber still and I don’t quite know why, but our driver was nice even if he didn’t seem to know where he was going!
Warwick University Campus and the Arts Centre were lovely and Jon Richardson was great as always. Josh and I were both surprised by the age range of his audience, but I suppose a young man who acts like an old man is funny and relatable to a lot of people! Josh and I had a few beers and after the show walked to McDonalds – for 40 minutes!! The chicken selects and nuggets went down very well after that and didn’t make me feel guilty at all.
After eating, Josh ordered us another Uber who we watched drive around a bit on the app and then cancel on us (rude…), then ordered another one who did actually turn up. The journey back was quick, cheap and enjoyable as our driver was really nice and chatty, but if I’m honest all I could think about was bed. It didn’t take long for me to collapse into bed and fall to sleep when we got back to the hotel.
This morning after a little lie-in, we drove back into Coventry for breakfast at Wetherspoons and a quick nip into Wilkinsons, where I found a lovely faux plant for the house, although I’m not sure where it’s going to go yet.
Now we’re chilling out in the living room because that’s exactly what Sunday afternoons are for. Josh is building his new Lego set (the Spiderman bridge for those who may be interested) and I’m watching TV, trying not to acknowledge the fact that we’re back at work tomorrow. I think reality will hit soon.
